Frequently Asked questions
What size table should I get?
To figure out what size table to have built you will need to know your room size plus the number of people you want to seat will dictate your table size. For the table placement in the room you usually want between 42-48″ between your table and the walls. If there is furniture in the dining space, begin your 42-48″ measurement from the edge of the furniture instead of the wall. You want to allow for about 24” of eating space per person so you aren’t bumping elbows. Many customers mention taping out the table size on the floor to get a feel for it in the space.

How long does it take to build a table?
Custom, handmade farm tables are our speciality. We don’t have a warehouse stocked full of dining tables and furniture that we can ship out the door in an instant. From start to finish, we can typically build a farm table in 7-10 days. You may have been told “your dining table will be ready to ship in 6-10 weeks”(Depending on the build and season) — and well, that’s true. We have several orders in the works before we’ve received yours, so although it doesn’t take that many weeks to build, your estimated “wait time” is still 8+ weeks! We are always working hard and doing our best to quicken our build time. Please contact us if you want your order sooner.
Can we visit your showroom to see your work in person?
We do not have a Showroom. But Yes, you are welcome to come by to see our work. Pleas keep in mind we are a small shop and are home based. All of our work is built to order. If we are in the mist of a build you're welcome to stop in and check things out. All we ask is that you book an appointment in advance, as we work in a active wood shop and at time it could be dangerous.
You can always visit our Virtual Showroom at https://www.pioneerwoodwerx.net/virtual-showroom.html

What kind of wood do you use?
Our base model tables are made from SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) Certified Douglas Fir which is sourced from the US Northwest. Tables are sealed so that you won’t have to worry about ring stains, water marks, etc. We like to create furniture that people can not only enjoy, but also USE every single day.
Each piece of lumber has a unique grain pattern, arrangement of knots and knot holes, and reacts differently while being stained, plus, given it has real people working on it, there are always traces of human influences. This is what makes buying hand-built items a pleasure.
Solid wood furniture has natural characteristics like all variety of knots/knot holes/hairline cracks/milling imperfections/etc. You will see natural character on the table top, legs, and apron. We cannot control for natural variations of the wood as we are using solid wood lumber and not mdf/plywood or any other engineered/manufactured lumber. Natural character is not considered a defect, but something to be celebrated. Gaps between the boards may appear or widen over time as the solid wood table acclimates to your home’s environment. If you prefer not to have gaps between the boards of your table top, please request a jointed top.
We also offer the following wood species: Walnut, Oak, Maple, Ash, and Cherry, however we are always looking to add more options to this list, so please inquire for our current options.

Do you make chairs?
We are happy to announce that we now have chairs. We have 6 styles to choose from. see out custom order page for the options. We don't manufacture our chairs, but we do hand finish the wooden chair styles to coordinate with the finishes on our custom, hand-built tables! Here's a quick link to where you can find our most popular styles https://www.pioneerwoodwerx.net/custom-order.html More to be added in the future.
Do you provide a warranty for your tables?
We stand by our work and our goal is to create tables that will last. Please do understand that wood is a natural element and is subject to seasonal changes (unlike laminate) and therefore it can shrink, expand, warp, crack, etc. This is just the nature of wood, and a minimal amount is to be expected. But if its excessive, we will fix it. We do not cover general wear and tear.
Can I upGrade the wood used on my project
Many options are available, but our most popular wood species are alder, walnut, red oak, maple, cherry, hickory and reclaimed wood, in addition to rustic (or rough sawn) pine for our signature barn doors. Unlike big box stores that use manufactured woods, Pioneer Woodwerx only uses solid wood, so regardless of which wood species you choose, the piece is heavy, durable, and will stand to the test of time. If you want to upgrade your wood on your project just let us know. Prices will vary.
How Do I Care for my new furniture?
For everyday care we recommend using a clean, soft cloth and mild soap and water or a natural cleaner. When your furniture needs polishing, we suggest using Orange Glo Wood Furniture 2-in-1 Cleaner & Polish and Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish and Conditioner. Harsh chemicals, such as bleach, can eat away at the finish over time and should not be used on your furniture.
Placing hot items on your furniture can damage it, so use hot pads before setting down serving dishes or other hot items. Cloth placemats can also help to protect the finish. Just like homes shift in the summer and winter months, your wood furniture can warp if exposed to excessive temperatures or humidity, so avoid extreme exposure.
If extensive repair is needed, please contact us – your table can almost always be returned to its original finish quality.

Why would my order be delayed?
While I do my best to avoid delays, they can happen. It is very common in this business. Scenarios such as materials(barn door tracks, wood or stain) could be on back-order. I'm human, so I may be out sick for a few days. Sometimes if a prior order gets damaged during shipping, I will have to fulfill that order again immediately which pushes back other orders. Weather could cause projects to dry longer. Things don't always operate as smoothly as we'd like over here!
REFUND POLICY
At Pioneer Woodwerx, we take pride in the high quality craftsmanship of our furniture. Our attention to detail from start to finish of a piece of furniture is meticulous. And so is our commitment to customer satisfaction.
If you are not 100% satisfied with your new farmhouse furniture, this needs to be expressed upon pickup and we will do our best to make adjustments to your order to your satisfaction.
By choosing to accept your order on the day of pickup confirms you are fully accepting your order in its "as is," unique, rustic condition. Meaning you are fully satisfied to keep it forever.
NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS
At the Pioneer Woodwerx, we produce rustic furniture using real wood. Every piece of wood presents unique sets of knots, grains, cracks and holes. The variation in wood means that every piece of furniture we produce will be unique from the last - no two pieces will ever be identical.
Over time (especially in soft wood like spruce and pine), dents, scratches, nicks and dings will become visible as well as any seasonal movement in the wood. There will be color variations (as no two pieces of wood are the same), and other natural imperfections in the wood. These characteristics enhance the beauty of rustic wood furniture. These marks are what tell the story of your piece.
Any movement, knots, warping, swelling and discoloration are intrinsic characteristics of solid wood furniture. There are also diverse environmental issues that may effect your furniture. Light, temperature and humidity are all contributing factors to the health and well being of your furniture.

Seasonal Movement
Once your furniture is in your home, it will acclimate to your homes environment. Seasonal movement in wood can cause the wood to shrink or expand as it reacts to your homes unique environment. This movement may result in checking (cracking), bowing or cupping. We take precautions against these issues and try to ensure that they do not happen by selecting wood that is at an appropriate moisture level, and sealing the wood with several coats of polyurethane. However, in its very nature wood is "alive" and there is a chance that it will shift over time.
(Low) Humidity
When humidity is too low in a home, wood doesn't have enough moisture to retain its true form. Each grain or ring will react differently to humidity, and when humidity is not at an appropriate level, cracking or checking (when the wood splits along the grain) can occur. To prevent this, it is important to ensure that you maintain an appropriate humidity in your home. This doesn't just apply to wood furniture, but also to wood floors and instruments.
Tip: The perfect home humidity isn’t always easy to pinpoint, as it relies on personal tastes and outdoor temperatures. Ideally, home humidity should stay between 30 and 40 percent in the winter months, while the summer allows a bit higher rate from 40 to 60 percent
